Our talented colleagues work on industry-leading products that solve problems and make a real impact. We’re always looking for brilliant people who are keen to develop with us. We aspire to create a workplace that nurtures talent and fosters collaboration and innovation across our digital, commercial and editorial teams.

We build world-class products that empower our journalists and delight our readers, advertisers and paying supporters through understanding their needs, and leveraging new technologies and the Guardian’s unique set of strengths.

Ways of working

You’ll be joining a diverse group of software developers, product managers, product designers and agile leads.

We’re driven by a strong belief in the Guardian’s mission: that we are open to all, funded by many, and beholden to no one.

We work with our journalists and other colleagues from across the Guardian in small, cross-functional teams. We’re empowered to understand our customers and find the right technical and creative approaches to solving problems.

Culture

In Product and Engineering, we are committed to cultivating a diverse and representative department that reflects our readership and improves our products. We believe that by valuing and celebrating our differences, we can better serve our equally diverse audience.

Additionally, we are dedicated to fostering career development opportunities for our team members, ensuring that everyone has the support and resources needed to thrive in their roles and advance their careers.

Knowledge is freely shared, and there’s a genuine eagerness to help one another, making it easy for individuals to grow and excel. With the freedom to learn at one’s own pace, individuals feel empowered to explore their interests and develop their skills organically, contributing to both personal and professional growth within the department and the company.

Benefits

  • Hybrid working

We see real value in face-to-face collaboration but we also understand the benefits of working remotely and the flexibility this offers. As such, there is a recognition that not all roles require a regular presence in the office. Engineering managers and our head of engineering join us in the office for three days per week, and all software developers and engineers for one day per week.

  • Bank holidays

If they like, our colleagues can choose to work on a day that is a public holiday in the UK and take off another workday as a holiday when it better suits their values, beliefs, or celebration calendar.
